I’m going to talk about Ableton Live and Max for Live as my presentation and there will be a small hands-on workshop! For the workshop, please follow the preparation instruction below.
We need to:
- Install Ableton Live 10 Suite
- Install Max 8.0.5 or higher
- and set Max 8.0.5 as Max for Live software on Ableton Live
- vSyn software
Ableton Live
From Ableton’s page, download and install Ableton Live 10 Suite trial and make sure it works. You don’t have to start trial if you don’t want to.
Max
From Cycling ’74s page, download and install Max 8.0.5. While installing, remember the path you are installing Max to. Default path for Windows is C:¥Program Fifes¥Cycling '74¥Max 8 and Mac is /Applications/Max.app.
Set Max 8.0.5 as Max software
Max is actually bundled in Ableton Live but it is still 8.0.2. So we need to change Max to newer version.
Mac users:
Open Abletion Live and press command + , or click Live -> Preferences on menu bar to open Preferences panel.
Move to File / Folder tab and press “Browse” button.
Go to /Applications/Max.app or your original path to Max application you installed and press “open”
Windows users
Open Ableton Live and press ctrl + , or click Options -> Preferences on menu bar to open Preferences panel.
Select Max 8 you installed. Default path is C:¥Program Fifes¥Cycling '74¥Max 8.
